FY 15 COPS Anti-Gang Initiative

Description: COPS Anti-Gang Initiative (CAGI) provides funds directly to the lead law enforcement agency on a multijurisdictional task force to address gang activity. Funds awarded through CAGI shall be used to support regional anti-gang task forces focusing on enforcement, prevention/education, and intervention of gang activity. Funding is limited and this solicitation is expected to be very competitive. Strong applications should demonstrate a multijurisdictional reach and participation in interdisciplinary team structures (i.e., task forces). The goal for this program is to advance public safety by increasing efforts to address gang activities. The COPS Office reserves the right to limit awards to one per state at the time of award announcement.

FY 15 COPS Hiring Program

Description: The COPS Hiring Program (CHP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. 2015 CHP grants will cover up to 75 percent of the approved entry-level salary and fringe benefits of each newly-hired and/or rehired, full-time sworn career law enforcement officer over the three-year (36 months) grant period, with a minimum 25 percent local cash match requirement and a maximum federal share of $125,000 per officer position. CHP grant funding will be based on your agency’s current entry-level salary and fringe benefits for full-time sworn officers; any additional costs for higher than entry-level salaries and fringe benefits will be the responsibility of the grantee agency. All agencies’ requests will be capped at no more than five percent of their actual sworn force strength as reported at the time of updated application, up to a maximum of 25 officers. Agencies with a service population of 1 million or above may apply for up to 25 officer positions; agencies with a service population less than 1 million may apply for up to 15 officer positions. The request of any agency with a sworn force less than or equal to 20 will be capped at one officer.

First in the World Program-Validation Grants

Description: The First in the World (FITW) program is designed to support the development, replication, and dissemination of innovative solutions and evidence for what works in addressing persistent and widespread challenges in postsecondary education for students who are at risk for not persisting in and completing postsecondary programs, including, but not limited to, adult learners, working students, part-time students, students from low-income backgrounds, students of color, students with disabilities, and first-generation students. The focus of the FITW program is to build evidence for what works in postsecondary education by testing the effectiveness of these strategies in improving student persistence and completion outcomes.

This notice invites applications for Validation grants only. Validation grants provide funding to support the expansion and replication of projects supported by moderate evidence of effectiveness to a scaled multi-site sample, which would include multiple institutions of higher education, including multiple institutions within a State system.
