A few months ago, there was optimism that the City of Southside might get the leverage that could help advance a new bridge project on Alabama Highway 77, in the form of a federal grant.
But Mayor Wally Burns said the city didn’t get a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grant this year.
The city will be able to reapply for the grant and Burns, who didn’t run for reelection this year, said he hopes the new administration taking office next month will do that.
