Complaining about funders and getting upset over losing a grant is a waste of time and energy. Okay. So you weren’t awarded the grant you wanted. I get it. It sucks. The best thing you can do is use the loss as a learning experience. Get the reviewers scores and comments: What did they like and dislike? Get together with your proposal team. Debrief. What worked well with your development process and what could be improved the next time? And, here’s a little secret about federal grants: You might score well and do everything right—and still not receive funding. There are a ton of reasons why good proposals are passed over (and most of them are out of your control). Focus on the things you can control and let the chips fall where they may.
