Managing federal grants isn’t like managing state grants or private grants. If you don’t have experience with federal grants, get some training and start networking with professional federal grant managers. A lot of people make the mistake thinking because they managed a state grant or a private grant, they can apply that background to federal grants. That’s not the case. Some of those skills are transferable, but there are enough significant differences (translation: federal regulations) that you really need specialized training to keep your organization on the right path. If something goes wrong, “this is how we managed a state grant” isn’t a defense during an audit.
